In Heatmap and Convention, I often explain variances by identifying whether they come from timing, mapping, data source or business rule changes. This capability translates directly into freight cost analysis: I can compare estimated versus actual cost and identify the impact from carriers, lanes, routes, shipment modes, surcharges or clearance delays.
